Also called complete heart block or complete AV block, there is complete failure of conduction of the supraventricular impulses to the ventricles The atria and the ventricles are activated independently. The atrial rhythm is usual faster. The ventricles are activated by an escape rhythm, usually slower and regular, originating distal to the block (in the AV junction, main His bundle or bundle branches). The more distal the escape pacemaker, the slower its rate.
