A succession of QRS complexes similar to those of the basic rhythm, without a preceding P wave. Typically, a junctional rhythm has a rate of 40-60bpm. It is called accelerated junctional rhythm when the rate is over 60bpm and called junctional bradycardia when the rate is under 40bpm. Retrograde activation of the atria may occur (a P wave follows the QRS) or there may be AV dissociation (eg the atria may be activated by the sinus node, while the AV junction activates the ventricles).
