Case 11: A 20-Year-Old Woman Who Fainted

This 20-year-old woman is admitted after an episode of syncope. She has a strong family history of sudden cardiac death:
Diagnosis
Sinus rhythm, 96/min.
QT/QTc = 400/505 msec.
Comments: A twin sister and a paternal aunt of the patient had suffered sudden death. In view of the family history, the episode of syncope and the QTc = 505 msec., genetic studies were carried out that were found to be positive for the mutation in the KCNH2 gene, associated with the long QT syndrome 2. The patient underwent implantation of an ICD.
